Successful Production of High-Quality Metakaolin for Low-Carbon Cement

Green360 Technologies (ASX: GT3) welcomes the completion of construction of the world's largest calcined clay (metakaolin) plant, located in Ghana, by Heidelberg Materials and CBI Ghana Ltd. 
 
The plant is already operational, supplying the raw materials for calcined clay, low-carbon cement - a significant step forward in expanding the use of sustainable construction materials. The capacity of the plant is more than 400,000 tonnes of calcined clay per year, to meet significant demand in Ghana and regionally. Cement is a massive market of global scale; cement consumption in Ghana alone is expected to double over the next 15 years, and globally, the market is expected to grow to USD$673.8b by 2033. 
 
Calcined clay is a sought after supplementary cementitious material (SCM) used to lower the carbon footprint of a finished concrete product. Traditional cement production is a major industrial polluter, with worldwide production representing approximately 8% of global emissions. Replacing a portion of traditional cement clinker with calcined clay produces a low-carbon cement product with significantly reduced CO2 emissions - in some cases, reduced by as much as 40%. 
 
SCMs like calcined clay are an essential part of decarbonising the cement and concrete industry. Recently, Green360 successfully produced a number of high-quality calcined clay samples from its Australian kaolin clay resources and deposits - suitable for use in the production of low-carbon cement and sustainable, high-performance building materials. The Company is making significant strides towards the development of low-cost, low-carbon cement formulations using SCMs like metakaolin, addressing growing regulatory pressure for the cement and concrete industry to reduce emissions.
